We’ve been enjoying vacations in the Smoky Mountains for over 25 years. In 1999 we decided to purchase our own vacation home in the Smokies. Most of the cabins and chalets in Gatlinburg have been given a name by their owners. We named our new home “Misty Wood” because of its woodsy setting and the mountain mist that frequently hangs over the area in the early spring mornings.
We live in Florida and travel to Gatlinburg as often as we can - usually 5 or 6 times a year. Rather than let “Misty Wood” sit empty, we make it available for rent whenever we are not there. After trying several rental companies and property managers, we decided to handle all of the rentals ourselves early in 2004. The rental companies just were not doing the job - for us or our guests.
Now we are able to offer our guests a very competitive price because we don’t have to pay any rental commissions. We keep up with the maintenance ourselves and have found some very reliable contractors to do our cleaning and odd jobs. We now average more than 241 nights rented each year, plus our own stays. So, if you are interested in staying here - please get on the list early, as the calendar fills up quickly every year.
We did a complete remodel in 2005, with all new paint, new carpet and vinyl, some new appliances and fixtures and new furniture for the living room. We also added free wireless internet to help our guests keep in touch with family, friends (and work 
).
